Default Camaro Alarm Problem

I have a 1996 Camaro 3.8L which has been my daily driver for the last 7 years and will become my brothers car in about a week.

Two nights ago, the alarm started doing something strange. When ever I lock the car...the horn beeps twice like normal, then 5 seconds later the alarm goes off with 2 horn beeps again (but slower...like if I accidentally hit the panic button) and then stops after 2. Also, the other night, I awoke to hear my car alarm going off but when I went outside the car was fine and I didn't see anyone. It has been doing this since then. Anyone have any ideas?

Sounds like a possible short in the wiring.

Sounds like GM's infamous "LUCAS" substandard wiring products & installation proceedures to me . Anything & everything electrical in our F-bodies seems to start crappin out after about 25 to 30,000 miles . Union labor maybe ? Or a combination of both more than likely .

Maybe a bad body control module??? Just find someone who has a 3.8 that is normal and swap them out to see if it fixes it.. will take 2 minutes... its a starting place anyway..

Alarm going off for no reason just after arming usually points to the shock sensor - try disconnecting it temporarily and see if it stops.

Mine was doing the same and it was the shock sensor that went bad. I just ended up leaving the shock sensor out and programing the car for keyless entry only and no alarm. No problem since.

Probably too damn much ! Friggin General Motors electronics . Hell , you can just look at that turn signal stalk & figure how much outdated electronic's they crammed into our rides . The lights flicker , the battery gauge or voltmeter bounces back & forth , the burglar alarm is haunted . Your never completely sure if the fu*ker is gonna start or leave you stranded . But it sure is pretty,,,& fast !

Default Getting Rid of Factory Alarm

I saw that sixvi6-camaro said that he just reprogrammed his remote to not activate the alarm. How can you do that. The thing just annoys me anyway and I'm having that same two beep problem that other people have had. It's a 2000, but only has 32k miles on it.

Reprograming steps are in the owners manual. In the 2001 manual its in section 2-21 dunno about the 200 manual. literally its something like pull the radio fuse, key on and do the hokey pokey and press the window switch then the radio then left turn signal. its really weird doing it but it works.

the other thing you can try is mess with the shock sensor.. there is an adjustment screw on it that will sometimes solve the problem just by making it less sensitive.

This happened to my firehawk after a big rainstorm, take off your shock sensor, open it up, its really easy, and look for moisture, take an alcohol swab and clean up any green residue. Put it back and it should work good as new.
