I am looking for a 3D cad model for the LS2 Corvette engine. I do not need the internal details just the outside profile and motor mounts. We are using this great engine in small aircraft. I need to make sure there is know interferance fits.

Good luck with the search. You won't get that from GM, they are pretty tight with the CAD data. However, someone may have used a 3d Scanner at some point to get what you are after... then it's up to them if they want to share.

Get one of those dummy blocks made of foam from summitracing.com it's an exact replica and only a few hundred dollars.

Do you have a contact at Summitracing. They must have math data if the can make dummy blocks

Eh.... Summit Racing is only the dealer. You can get the info on comparsion to the old Gen1 Motormouts (Mounts to Block) from the LS1 ENGINE KIT INSTALLATION GUIDE.
The Corvette Mounts (Mounts to Frame) are suposed to be 14 1/2" from the Back and 8 5/8 from the middle. But i got no info on the hight. I guess its even with the Block bottom?

Hello GM LSX.
I design with 3D models and looking for a LS2 or LS7 in a iges or Solidworks format. It help to make sure you have tooling clearance around the cowling

The Cowling? You mean the Top of the Complete engine? Im trying to do a roght modell. I don't have a engine right now. Only the Velly cover, some mesures and drawings from the 1999 Corvette service manual and a good CAD screenshot from FAST's Intake. I hope it will be good for a hight of about +-1/3". I use lightwave. I can convert into 3ds, DXF and OBJ.

The cowling is the part of the plane that covers the engine(s) ... similar to the hood of a car. You can remove the cowling to gain access to the engine for mechanical repairs, etc.

Also known as Engine Cover or Fuel Rail Covers on Corvette and GTO. Makes a Engine complete. Unless you cromeplate or polish the parts underneath.

No. A cowling is the same as a cars hood, as I said ... nothing like fuel rail covers at all.

I would think that the LS2 may be a hard .dwg to come by. You may have better luck finding one for the LS1/LS6.

Yes! The LS6 engine Math Data would be great. If I can not find a 3D model we will have to find spec sheets with overall, stater and engine mounting location dimensions

I think you can buy a LS1 block only for around $1200.00. An additional cost, but nowhere near what GM would probably want for the Cad file.

Or you can find a shortblock that needs rebuilding for <$300 and use that as mock up. Those foam blocks might make things a bit easier though and cost roughly the same. Its a lot easier to move a block of foam or plastic than it is to move a huge chunk of aluminum. I know Speed, Inc. sells those dummy blocks too...again though, they are just a dealer and do not manufacture them.

I have been searching as I have seen on on a website which I'm sure was linked form here. They certainly do the LS1 engine in plastic form, with removable heads and you an also get the transmittion too. Ideal for sizing up on how its all going to fit in your custom build. I think it was plastic, it wasn't foam. I'm pretty sure they done the LS7 too, possible even the LS2, been searching for an hour now, I saw it about 2 weeks ago, but cant for the life of me remember where. arrgghhh.

The only companies in possession of that cad data are GM, certain GM suppliers, and companies that took the time and endured the expense to reverse engineer the block. That cad data cost a lot of money to create or obtain and none of them are going to give it away for free.

I wish you luck in your search, but I think your best best is to buy a plastic replica and physically mock up the assembly.
