Default Car trouble....

89 Firebird (i know not lsx or ltx but maybe you guys can help) with gen I sbc. Car will start sometimes and then cut off...no spitting or sputtering...just cuts off like the battery is dead. Lights wont come on, gauges wont work ect. Checked the battery, its fine...cleaned the connections...did the same for the grounding wire....checked fuses and they are fine.

I'm runnin out of ideas here

after the engine cuts out you say you then have no lights and gauges dont work.
that pinpoints it to electrical as opposed to fuel at least,
the fact you have no electrical power at the gauges and no lights further pinpoints it between the battery and the ignition switch, if it were after ignition switch then engine would shut off but you would still have lights and gauges would work.
I hear the mid-1990's cars had fusible links inline in the wiring, buddy blew his on his 1995 camaro, although i think once they're blown that's it they're done. your problem sounds like something may be heating up & failing, cooling down then working so look at relays, otherwise loose wiring or bad connection in the place i mentioned, and on the ground side between battery & engine block/metal body.

by the way, wrong ******* forum
