Cam bearing install post?
I have an lq9 I'm putting together and the cam bearings are showing copper on the bottom and one side. the rod and main bearings look great. the motor is very clean inside. my machine shop wants me to disassemble the entire motor to change them. has anyone done a post on removing and installing them? the motor is on a stand, the heads are off getting a valve job and i have the pan off, just finished putting in the rod bolts. can I change them with out tearing down the motor?

Wrong section for this, but I've heard of people actually changing them out in car. I have no experience with it, but I know you shouldn't have to take the bottom end apart to do it. They probably just want you to disassemble it because it will be easier for them to move it and work with it.

You have to have a way of checking that the oil hole in the bearing is lined up. if you can find a way to do that with it together you can do it in car, i would think you would have to take the oil pan off.
