Default Quench questions/clarification on budget 5.3

Hi there
Hope everyone is having a great new year
i have a couple questions or maybe just clarification about quench if you don't mind
I'm rebuilding the 5.3 in my jet boat. What was going to be a "**** can the 5.3 and build a 408" situation went out the window when the gf showed up with one of those pee sticks. But I digress
So my 5.3 was in relatively good shape. Held decent compression on all 8 holes and ran well. But it's old. Had 200k plus miles on it when it went in the boat a year and a half ago. And that was 16 bottles of nitrous ago (150 shot).

Pulled it apart and it looks like a 200k Mike engine. Rod bearings look great, crank is decent, needs to be ground.
So since the little one is on the way, I'm can only afford a rebuild and nothing crazy like I had been planning. (I'm the only one working)
i bought A set of speed pro hypereutectic Pistons for standard bore that also are flat tops. ( Replacement 4.8 pistons) I have not received them yet and my engine block is 6 hours away from me in Phoenix.
But I'm doing some math and getting ready to order the head gaskets. And if my math is decent (will be verified with the block next weekend) the pistons will end up around .010" in the hole with stock rods.
So my question is, should I do the following if my math is right.

A. Have deck blocked .016" to bring piston .006 out of the hole then run around a .041 - .046 gasket to get quench to .035 - .040

B. Have deck blocked more and run a stock head gasket and aim for .035-.040. I.e. - cut deck about .020

C. Keep deck where it is and run a .025 - .030 gasket to get the desired quench?

D. Stop being an idiot and throw it together
Fwiw my stock 5.3 pistons were right at 0 deck with a compression height of 1.331
thank you for any information you want to pride

Default Piston Squish/Engine Operation

Hi, I am in a different "boat" my wife = Stage III LC.

I too like low cost ideas, top quality, a sigh of the use of one's brain.

First,
The piston I fit, BAJA's, Buggies, Jet boats, Air Boats is forged, made to order,
proper size, a low priced Forged Piston.

I ask the cost of the purchased pistons and rings ?

DO THE MATH, deck cost, bore cost, could be the SAME.

Lance,

Sorry to hear about your wife. My prayers are with you.

My local machine shop will cut the block for me for 100 dollars. If my math is on and the amount of cut i told him is right (i told him .015")

I paid 188 for the pistons from summit

And like 40 i think for the rings

So ill be in the "pistons" (deck, pistons, rings) for about 350. Cheapest forged pistons i can find in my bore are about 600 and i am not sure thats with rings. And those are for aftermarket rods

Like i stated in the previous post, the 5.3 still ran strong and well. Was a tiny bit down on power (come to find out, i have 9 worn valve guides and a bad intake valve) but in all honesty it was turn key, sipped fuel, and was still a 70+ mph boat on motor. Nitrous was just for fun

And im sure it would have lasted a while longer too. But i just want it fresh while i have the extra time/money to do it.

Default China Head Std's = OK

Hi, thanks for the numbers.

My only concern is the piston you chose is for OEM bore size a -.002" piston/bore clearance.
At 200K there could be wear, about .003" ?
This could give you P/W of .005", too great for your chosen piston.
I have found boat engines do not like a cast ring.
I have a method, the ability to fit a Cometic "thin" gasket, that will work.

The use of my "Made in China" head stud kit @ $100, to your door, will allow this type of gasket to work.
This stud material will "grow" at the same rate as the AL.
Your head gasket will not then extrude itself into the combustion chamber.
