I seen this simularity back in '03 or so when I was porting a set of Victor JRs for one guy and a set of 5.3s for another had em out in the shop one day getting everything laid out porting supplies and stuff and I was like hmmm. I was working at a speed shop at the time during the day and aproached my manager and he was like hmmm....thats as far as it got other than telling a few regulars that came in the store that week.

If your going to go through all of that trouble why not just use the whole ls1 engine. Have an aluminum block and save some money in the long run.

Because the parts for a sbf are much more affordable than an lsx engine. And when you have a set of stock lsx heads that flow nearly what a $2000 set of ford heads flow, you end up saving tons of money. You can build a 400ci sbf for as little as $1500. What does it cost to build a 400ci lsx engine?

If you want a Ford motor to make any power, you have to put Chevrolet parts on it, duh.

I wonder how much a intake that is worth a **** will cost for that thing. I am not really a ford v/s chevy guy . I am a fast car guy.Which is why I run GM. I have had several 5.slow's. And if you think that when you put a set of chevy heads on a SBF your not going to hear **** every time you pop the hood your wrong. And that Will come from ford and chevy guys. And as far as building a 400CI ford for $1500 that would be a nice trick. I wonder how come everyone don't do that.I am sure you priced a stroker kit out of a magazine for one but there is much more to it than that. And go ahead and ad the price of an aluminum block to that $1500 and tell me how much money you have saved.

Add block work, and you're right at $1500.

I've literally built hundreds of engines, both chevrolet and ford, and both have their advantages and disadvantages. Chevy lacks on their blocks due to the lack of deck height. You can't get a good compression height on a piston with a 4" crank without using 5.850 rods, unless you want to fork out the cash for a tall deck height block. Fords have 9.5 deck height blocks, and you can put a 4.250 crank in them with a 6.200 rod and still have a 1.170 compression height. Its all about how much money you want to spend. As far as an all out race engine, I wouldn't even consider an lsx engine. It would cost entirely too much to make the durable hp that you could make with the standard sbc. I've built plenty of $1500 short blocks for customers, and I've built $8000 short blocks. Its all in how fast, and for how long you want to go. And as far as aluminum blocks go, there is no advantage whatsoever other than it being lighter. Building a 1200hp aluminum small block nitrous engine would be stupid. The aluminum small blocks aren't strong enough to support the hp.
