Default Which shift light?

I've been going back and forth about whether to get a dash mounted tach or a shift light, and I decided I really don't want/need another tach. So I'm going to get a shift light and I want to put it in the AC vent that's just to the driver's right.

I've looked at the Raptor and Harlan (don't know if he still makes them ), and the price looks like it varies by quite a bit. My question is are all shift lights pretty much the same? I'd like for it to be as cheap, accurate, as bright as it can be, and small enough to fit in the vent. Any suggestions on a light?

Harlan still makes the shiftlights. His website is a little outdated though. I purchased a harlan shift light a couple months ago and it works perfect. I installed it in the defroster. I beleive the Harlan light has 5 leds and the raptor has 6. I liked the price and pattern of the harlan better.

The Raptor shiftlight hands down. I bought mine from Speed Inc. for around $110-120, installed it in the A/C vent just to the right of the driver, and it works flawlessly.

I've seen a lot more good reviews for Raptor than I have for Harlan, but the Raptor is double the price. Would I just be paying for the Raptor name, or there really that much difference between the two?

Anyone else know of any shift lights out there that would fit my needs?

I have the Harlan shift light. It has worked perfectly. It's bright enough to be noticeable during the day, and is definitely bright enough at night. I don't see (from my experience at least) why you would pay twice the price for a part that is virtually identical.

I don't have any of the one's you wrote. I have a Stewert Warner shift light/Tach.. I have it mounted in a piller pod and the thing is really bright for the shift's.. The other cool thing is it's a digital read out of the RPM.. Check it out maybe you might like them.

Here's another location to just toss out there for you. I have a raptor and I don't want to give a suggestion as to which one is best because I have not looked into any others, but my raptor has given me no troubles at all and is exactly what I wanted!! Good Luck!

EvilBLK02TA, thanks for the offer but I'm looking for a red one and I just put in an order to Harlan a couple hours ago.

WS6R6, that location looks like it would catch my eye a lot better. What do you have that mounted on?

I looked for instaluniversity.com's info about this and I can't find it, maybe they took it down

I am putting one of these in this time around with 2 other matching 2 1/16" gauges, in the center vents. I like the programability and playback features.

Dang, now THAT is a sick looking setup! I might look into that after I get bored with my Harlan. So I'm guessing it gets progressivly brighter as your shift RPM gets closer? I wonder how that launch light feature works.

ive got the level 2. when you are running it normally it will light up whatever color you have it set at when you reach your shift point. but when in lauch mode it will flash yellow when your getting close to the shift point then light up whatever color you have it set at for the shift then if you go past it will light up red to let you know you missed it. you can also control the brightness of it.
