that's exactly what i do using Dawn dish soap for both washes and 3m swirl remover with a $25 walmart polisher(10"). it isn't the ideal setup for paint correction but it does work pretty well

Dawn is fine for the re-wash. You will work yourself to death doing the swirl cutter by hand. Any possible way to get a buffer? Beg, borrow??

You know what i might have one in the garage. I think it is an orbital 10" buffer..

If i have it, what pads do i want to use? What pad for applying and taking off the swirl remover, as well as the wax?

i dont think you can get the speed needed out of a regular buffer to get the most out of a swirl cutter. a buffer is only good for applying and removing waxes and such. for a swirl cutter, you need speed to work the product into the clearcoat. tropicare says to use a speed around 5-6 on a PC for swirl cutters. the highest speed is 6.....so you get the point. i wouldnt even bother with the buffer. theres nothing you can do with that that you cant do by hand. get a real PC. tropicare sells a starter kit for under 180 i think.

either way, 3M finesse-it and tropicare swirl cutter are the best ones ive seen. ive used megs swirl cutter, but it did nothing for swirls. made it shine extra nice though. more of a polish then a cutter.

You can't remove swirls by hand. Use NXT to fill them or get a PC from Tropicare.

the 10" polisher isn't the right tool for the job but it does work better than trying to rub by hand. i just used a microfiber bonnet for the application and removal

I would seriously recommend buying a Porter Cable 7424. I've used one for years and it's worth the price the first time you use it. Most of the better swirl/scratch removal products require the heat generated from high speed to work properly. In addition, using the correct application pad is just as important for optimal results. It's the only way to go if you want to truly remove swirl marks and minor scratches. I use Menzerna products, but never would bother using them by hand for an entire car. In the meantime you can use a glaze before applying the final polish to help fill the smirl marks.

The PC is 169.99 plus shipping. It comes with the buffer, backing plate, counter weight, pads and bonnets. It also comes with small sample bottles of the car wash, polish, detail spray and swirl cutter. I am the Tropi-care rep for Houston and stock most of the products as well as the buffer kits.

I don't use Dawn on my paint anymore.
The swirl remover should clean up the paint, and isn't as harsh.

Dawn is for dishes.

I really like Prima Swirl, but lately I have been using Menzerna polishes.
I do a 4-5 step process on mine though. At least 3 of them with a PorterCable.

Hey Jonas, I'll rent out my PC to you if you are interested and I'll show you how to use it. I'd offer to do it for you but man it is time consuming! I'll be in Hillside/Berkeley maybe on Monday or Tuesday.
