Default HVAC led's/Shifter led

I bought some Superstar(autolumination) red led's for the a/c panel and they are not as bright an I expected them to be. So what bulbs are you guys using for the a/c panel.

Forgot to add the shifter light. I also put a LED in and it doesn't look very bright

I would like to hear from the guy running the red led's

Post pics if possible

I'll try and remember to get some pictures for you tonight. I used LEDs in both above mentioned places and it lights up pretty good.

The SMT #74 your using puts out plenty of light, but the problem is your firing the light directly into a black plastic plate with almost no side dispersion for the clear waveguide. If your going to use a pre-packaged #74 LED, use an inverted or file down the front (be careful how much) to widen the dispersion of the LED (you can't use a SMT style). A regular incandescent #74 bulb will disperse light out of the sides allowing the light frequency to be distributed throughout the waveguide. Most people will not use replacement front firing LED's in the HVAC housing. You will likely need to solder a 3mm or a 5mm (with resistor of course) into the factory wire harness. The LED you choose will need a wide dispersion pattern to get the light through the waveguide. You will also notice that a red LED will light most of the HVAC fascia excellent, but will not light up the other colors properly (red lens on the HVAC will work best with the red LED). If you use white LED's it will look good on the blue and other colors, but the red portion of the overlay (HVAC) will become a muted red. I use RED LED's and get a fantastic saturated red glow from the HVAC.

Looks even better in person:

Check out the fquick link in my sig. I did my whole interior in red leds. The HVAC and shift indicator needed to be changed to Firebird parts because there is too much blue film on the Camaro ones for the leds to shine brightly...

Did anyone else have a problem with their Passenger side door handle light? I installed LED's on both door handles and only the drivers side is bright. The passengers side is not really an improvement from stock.

Did you guys use a brighter bulb or did you have to mod the door handle panel?

I read awhile back about some people having trouble with the passengers side.

I had the same problem with the passenger side LED(blue). I think you need an LED that directs light out the sides instead of out the front. The door lights use a clear plastic that directs the light 180 degrees, and a "front firing LED" doesn't really aim at that plastic. I think some guys just do away with the plastic socket and mount the bulb so the LED shoots directly out of the door handle onto the switches.

No, you want a front firing LED with tight dispersion so the light intensity will be directed through the lens and onto the door controls. Try using the newer #74 SMT's. Results should be nothing short of spectacular !
