Default My Shifter Mod (FLAME ON!!)

Well my first idea was to put in a Megashifter, but I gave up on that idea after realizing the Megashifter that I purchased ended up being broken... this of course happened after I tore the center console all apart, yanked the stock shifter, etc. etc. So I was pretty pissed at this point, and decided to go a slightly different route.

First, I modified my shifter track (drilling very slightly on the plastic) to make it a little more difficult to manually shift the car from gear to gear (doesn't slide as easy from gear to gear now, I'm happy with it).

Of course I wasn't going to stop there. I had to at least utilize the shift **** right? And I couldn't put it back in without a boot either. So I ordered a shift **** adapter from the WS6Store. They shipped it the next day (thanks guys!) and it was time to drill. I found a little nut and bolt place that had a 16x1.5 tap and the drill bit I needed to use the tap. So I took the shift handle from my B&M Megashifter, set it in the vice (should have wrapped it with a rag, oh well, few scratches, I can get a new one) and proceeded to drill the hole bigger with my drill bit. Worked out good, so I went ahead and tapped it with my new tap. Sweet, threads right on to the adapter. *Looks at the **** on the adapter* Hmmm, looks familiar (I'm not a big fan). Now I don't want to bash on -Freak-'s setup, because it was actually his thread that gave me this idea (not sure how I stumbled upon it, but glad I did), but I'm not a fan of the angle of his shift handle (which looked identical to mine after I threaded it onto my adapter). I like the handle, but the way it sits on the adapter just doesn't look right:

Hope that doesn't upset him... I still have to give him a huge thanks for turning me on to this idea.

Since I didn't like the look I was currently stuck with, I decided to get crafty and saw'd off the threads on my adapter. Cool, it's hollow inside... means I can stuff it with JB Weld Puddy, give it an angle and stick it back to the adapter... oh yes! That's just what I did. End result makes me happy. Picked up a cheapo shift boot from the local Auto Zone and made it work (gotta love the wire-tie holding it up huh? I'll figure out something else eventually, I have other projects to worry about, haha). Anyways, I took a picture to give you an idea... can take more if you'd like... but hell it doesn't look too bad and I'm sure it was a lot less work than trying to put the MegaShifter in their. Enjoy, and FLAME ON!!

Ditch the boot. The only drawback to that **** is that in the summer it will get HOT

You automatic guys are always so entertaining! The boot looks like a deflated black basketball jammed in there with a tie wrap. I can appreciate your efforts, but the end result is not so great.

The shifter looks good. The boot eh not so much. Ditch it or find a way to make it fit nicley WITHOUT a ziptie.

it's an appearance mod, and really doesnt have a thing to do with wanting to shift the car.

The boot looks like its just to big, you might wanna cut it at the bottom and put it back on for it to fit a little better. Ive got a boot for mine, which i havent put on but when i did put it on to see how it would look. It didnt look so big like your's does but the shift **** is nice.

That boot just seems out of place. Handle looks good...
suggestion:
I dont know much about the autos... can you make the shifter shorter? I think your new **** would look pretty good with no boot and a shorter shifter.

With some trimming and adjustment, you can get the boot to look like this:

http://www.fadingarrow.com/ShiftBoot.htm

The boot I used is closed at the top with Velcro (and maybe an elastic too, I don't remember). How does that one close at the top? If it is the same, but doesn't close tight enough, can you put the zip tie through the upper loop of the shift boot so the zip tie isn't visible?

Fix the boot and shorten the stick a little and you should be all set.
