Default How thin is the clear-coat on the F-Bodys?

I want to wet sand the car then polish it to make it look better. The car is a 1999 still looks good when i clean her up, I just want to really make it look good.
Maybe i should just try a good buffing on it first. I have the 3M and meguires products where i work real cheap.
Any ideas or insight?
Thanks
Josh

I'd try the buffing first before wet sanding. My car is a 98 and looks great after a claybar and wax. Just be careful with the clear coat if you decide to wet sand, cause once it starts peeling there is no stopping it. Unfortunately I know this first hand.

Default I did mine!~

I did my rear bump with no problems. I wet sanded with 800 grit( lightly) untill the orange peel came out, then 1000 gritted 1500 gritted then 2000 gritted and buffed looks like glass now. Now i gotta do the rest of the car to match LOLLOL But looks a 100 times better

I'd never touch a car with 800 grit. 1500 max. The average guy should stick with 2500 grit. Tracers are a b****h to get out.

I would definately recommend practicing on someone elses car first. And buy a realllllly good buffing kit. I just got through repainting my bike and had all kinds of of trouble mostly because of the cheap buffing kit I used. I ended up repainting it a couple times, tons of wet sanding, rubbing compound, waxing and buffing. The paint was crap and plus I had never done something that needed an automotive quality or better finish. Part of it was my fault for sure, but poor products definately don't help at all.

Anyways, what I'm trying to saying is make sure you feel comfortable with it before you sanding on your Holy F-Body. Its a nightmare to fix if you screw up.
