Default What Paint Do I Need For The Following....

I want to paint my brakes, valve covers and coil packs. I really do not have the money for powder coating My car is not a DD so i am not too worried about the paint chipping...

So what type of paint for the above items (what temp rating)?

What type of primer?

Do i want to use adhesion promoter primer?

Clear?

Thanks. When the weather breaks i got some projects that i need to start workign on

You can pick up a kit from autozone. The caliper paint comes in a box. The contents include a brush, a little can of paint, and a can of brake parts cleaner. It's like 15 bucks and it lasts a lot longer than the paint version. I believe it is a duplicolor product.

For brake calipers, this is exactly what i was going to recommend. Easy to use and last for a long while. No messy drips either

The brake calipers you can go with a standard metal primer and your choice of caliper paint and high-temp clear. I've had great success with Duplicolor and VHT products.

You can use primer, high-temp paint or caliper paint, and a high-temp clear for the valve covers. The same for the coil packs, but I'd take it a step further and use some adhesion promoter on the coil packs since they are plastic. It would only be like $5 more for the can of adhesion promoter.

For the calipers duplicolor and G2 make nice kits. I tried the G2 on my daily driver and like it a little more than the duplicolor kit. It has more of a glossy look to it. I will be painting my camaro calipers again in the near future with the G2.

You know what Russ i just checked, and i have 2 cans of RED and 2 cans of BLACK. They are both Dupli-Color Caliper Paint with Ceramic to with stand temps up to 500*. so this stuff is perfect.

Can i use the same stuff on my valve covers, rear diff and coil packs?

the stuff that i want to paint, does it need a caot of primer?

Jonas, this is what I did - not saying it is necessarily the right way, but it worked well.

Sanded the brakes to get them smooth, cleaned with brake cleaner, sprayed 4 coats of high temp red paint, then sprayed with 2 coats of high temp clear.

I used this process on my brakes, and coil packs. Worked like a charm. I have had no problems with chips etc. I still have to do my valve covers, but I will use the same technique.

I didn't go crazy on the sanding.

For the brakes, I took off any really rough areas. I believe the most fine grit I used was 600.

For the coil packs, I scuffed them so the paint would stick with 600 grit.

I believe sanding is the most important part though. Prep is key to painting. I jus' grabbed a can of Rust-o-leum red paint and clear and it has withstood for 2 years and still looks great.

Did you paint your coil brackets too?

I don't have brackets - my car has the perimeter bolt valve covers, so the coil packs bolt directly onto the valve covers.

I picked up a set of center-bolt valve covers with brackets for my H/C swap. I'll be painting the brackets gray.
