Default Underhood detailing

How are people painting the plastic portion under the air lid? Don't recall what it's called. But yeah. Can't be PC'd can it? Melty time? So how are people painting it?

you can use any paint and color that you want as long as you make sure to put some clear coats of the high heat engine paint over it. I did this with one of my old cars and it turned out just fine.

Sweet. So does this require sanding or just spray and pray? lol Then spray the clear. And pray some more. Sound about right? lol I wanna do dark charcoal metallic but will have to find it.

well, i'm about to do mine to match my car. Last time i didn't sand, but i think i will this time; probably with fine grit. If anyone else has experience i'm sure we would both appreciate it.

Never done it myself, but I have painted other engine parts. If you're after the best possible result, wetsand every so often!

just be sure to clean the surface off really well, then prime it and add paint. Krylon Fusion is really good on plastics, but you can use other paints.

I sanded mine and then had it colormatched at a local shop. Just did it last week. I will have to get the picture off my camera. Here you go

How much did a shop charge you to paint that?

They charged me $50. It would have been cheaper if I would have had more items for them to paint. They had to buy the paint. My plan was to buy the colormatched paint (rattle can) and do it myself. I have done some smaller parts and they came out "okay" With the other pieces painted professionally, I wanted this one to match. It would have taken me a couple days to sand, prime, paint, clear, wetsand and buff. They had it done in a day and all I did was drop it off and pick it up. Worth the money to me.

Looks amazing 98zee. i had never thought of doing that because i didn't think a shop would mess with something that small, but i might just go that route now.

Thank you! I wasn't sure if they would. I just stopped by and they said no problem. I have about 6-8 under hood pieces for the Silverado I'm going to have them do.

Yeah I know a guy that can do the air lid. Will check with my body shop guy, but I anticipate it being expensive.

make sure you lightly sand and PRIME THE PLASTIC so the finish paint will stick and the longer you wait the harder the paint will get, curing time varies with a lot of variables.
