Default question about removing side molding

can anyone tell me if there was a shadow after you took off the molding? like 2 dif shades of paint due to fading? because i want to do this but i am afraid that the shadow will be noticable.

I didn't have any fading/different color, but there was a lot of "buildup" (probably a mixture of dirt and old wax/polish that dried up over the years) around the edges that I still haven't been able to get off.

There is a chance depending on the age of the car that the paint has faded a little. I could see a slight difference where the molding was. My car was 5 years old when I remove the molding. Once I had the tape residue off, I went over it with a buffer and some polishing compound. Problem solved. I took the molding off the Silverado a couple days after I bought it. No difference in the paint, but did the same "cleanup" on it. I have also heard horror stories about buying the car used, removing the molding and seeing the car had been repainted.

if you have painted your car while they were still on, there will probably be a different shade. just heat them up and get something thin under them and rip them off, but there will be lots of glue left, i took it all off with a rubber wheel using a air tool. then buff it. ill take pics of mine tomorrow.

I just took my side molding off yesterday. It looks soooo much better! I also have a porter cable buffer so I buffed the residue off and now you can't even tell it was even there.

I took them off on my trans am a few months ago. I thought to myself, "There's no way just taking these stupid rubber moldings off will make me car look any better." 30 minutes, later, holy crap, it made it look a LOT better. Around some corners there was a little residue left that didn't come off all the way, but it's so unnoticeable, so don't worry about it. Your best bet is to pull an edge of one of the moldings up just to make sure the paint underneath matches and everything. Then rip 'em off!

My car is 11 years old, I removed the side moldings last month and the paint underneath looked great, I just had to get a rubbing compound to get some of the dirty residue out of the paint, but after that it looked perfect

As long as the car hasn't been painted you should be good.

You should have no problems unless it has been repainted that stated above.
