Back in the Saddle: My Minimalistic Daily Driver Project SS
"Less is more."
"K.I.S.S. - Keep it simple, stupid!"
My two quotes to live by on this car that I picked up for $8,000 on October 15, 2009 (from the original owner with 100,000 miles on the clock in really good shape). I was tired of paying car notes and wanted something that was reliable and practical to daily driver (LS1 reliability, T56 gas mileage) that was also a little fun, so I got out of the truck and got back into a F-Bucket. I missed sports cars and banging gears. It's honestly a little tough going back into a F-Body after the creature comforts I've been accustom to in my past few vehicles, but since it's just basic transportation that I'm not going to have to tote a big car note on, I can do without some of the creature comforts. This SS fits the bill perfectly.
I'll be doing a lot of little things here and there to make it look better and keep it interesting, but as far as big power mods go my main priority is to keep it close to stock and as reliable as possible with just basic bolt ons. My main focus on this car in the way of modifications will be appearance and suspension. I hope to work towards having a high mileage head turner.
Here is the list of factory options and the mods the car came with, as well as a few initial snap shots just after I purchased the car. I'll update this thread with the changes I make as I go.
Vehicle: Onyx Black 2000 Chevrolet Camaro SS LS1 M6
Options: SLP SS package, chrome 10 spoke SS wheels, Hurst short throw shifter, Monsoon 500w audio package
Mods it came with: Flowmaster catback with cutout, Baer Eradispeed cross-drilled and slotted rotors, LS7 clutch, LS2 Fidanza lightweight aluminum flywheel
Already have a few goodies on the way and a few things lined up. I should have some updated pictures in a few weeks showing the newness.

That car is clean as hell to have that many miles on it. And i just gotta say this....SpdKlz, your location cracks me the hell up everytime i see it. And to the op, if you ever see a pewter T/A with ghost flames, you better wave bc i sure as hell will. (i hope someone gets that reference).

Plans are to make it look nice, do basic bolt ons (lid, already has catback and cutout but I want to get rid of the slash cut truck tips and put turndowns above the rear bumper line on, LS6 intake maybe, and a tune), and just drive it and enjoy it. I want a C5 Z06 for a weekend toy but it'll be a few years before I buy, so instead of sinking money into this car I want to save for the Z06. I definitely want to do little things here and there to make this car clean. My goal is just to have a high mileage head turner that's something more fun to drive to and from work than an economy car or my old truck.

I sold the GTO because values were getting ready to plummet and I didn't want to get stuck upside down and pay a lot of money for a car that was only worth a little. I got a truck because I got a great deal on a trade in, and luckily it held it's value well while I owned it, but I'm getting married and wanted to free up some money so the big truck note had to go. I miss the creature comforts of the GTO and the truck, but it feels good to be back in something fun that doesn't cost me a fortune each month.

I sold the wheels separately. I loved the car, but it wasn't something I wanted to sink over $30,000 into if I had kept it and paid it off. If I'm going to invest that kind of money into a vehicle long-term, it'll be a Z06 (which is next on my list in a few years).
