Default Firebird CLOTH Interior Question...

Does anyone here have an '00-'02 Firebird/Formula/Trans Am with a CLOTH dark GREY interior, NOT ebony?

I've researched A LOT lately, and it seems that all I can come up with is that the '00-'02 Firebird lines were only available with 2 color interiors: Ebony and Taupe (Tan) in both leather and cloth. However, I'm beginning to suspect that the dark grey cloth was available as well.

Here's what I know:

1) I recently purchased CLOTH '00 Trans Am seats that have the "rainbow" pattern in the cloth that is supposed to be for the '00-'02 only ('97-'99 seats aren't supposed to have the "rainbow" coloring in the cloth), but the seats are grey, NOT ebony...of course CLOTH isn't supposed to be an option for the TA's either, so it COULD have been a Formula.

2) I recently purchased an EBONY cloth seat from an '02 and when it arrived, it did NOT match the dark grey cloth '00 seats.

3) The same seller that sold me the ebony seat says he has a grey one in the same pattern also from an '02. I've sent the ebony one back and he's going to exchange them for me, but dark grey isn't supposed to have been a color option in '02.

SO, can anyone confirm that dark grey cloth WAS an option for the '00-'02 Firebirds?

Or, can anyone confirm that the '97-'99 GREY CLOTH interior patterns does NOT have, for lack of a better term, "rainbow colored flecks" in the pattern of the cloth?

My car is a 99 Formula with grey cloth, and its just solid grey. Im hoping to convert the whole interior to black leather eventually.

That's what I was hoping to hear...so there are NO colored "flecks" in the grey fabric at all in the '99's?

The bottom of the seat cushions I have are supposed to be out of an '00, but the sticker on the bottom says 99 Fonce which meand "dark" in frech according to my research. However, they definately have a rainbow effect in the fabric which was supposed to have started in the '00's, so that's what's leading to a lot of my confusion as well...

The contrasting specs on the 00-02 ebony firebird and formula seats are a medium grey not rainbow( it is barely noticeable) colored like the 97-99's .

Breakdown for combo's from 00-02

Firebird or formula - Ebony or neutral cloth or leather , as well as ebony accent leather .
Trans Am - leather only in ebony , ebony accent ( leather on seat surfaces only and door panels were a darker Camel tan and the rest of the interior plastics including the plastic seat backs and carpet were ebony ) and lastly neutral ( light tan )

Camaro 00-02 (all)
Ebony , neutral or medium grey cloth . Medium grey cloth was 2 toned with seats , door panel inserts and carpet being medium grey ( which was actually a light grey ) and all the plastic panels in the car were ebony
Ebony or neutral leather ...no medium grey leather .

My Formula has "ebony" but the seats are pretty much gray. It does have slight flecks in it but not rainbow colored at all.

FWIW you could not have purchased cloth seats from a 2000 T/A. ALL Trans Am's from 1998-2002 had leather standard. cloth was only available on the LT1 T/A and is pretty rare. most i have seen (including my own) had leather.

I'm not sure I'm following you on this statement...are you saying that the medium grey in the '97-99's DID have the rainbow "colored flecks"?

Or, are you saying that there was a medium grey available in the '00-'02 models, but not according to the published literature.

Here's my question in a nutshell. The grey cloth interior I have DEFINITELY has the rainbow "colored flecks" in the material that's supposed to only be in the '00-'02 pattern (correct?), but a true ebony colored seat from an '02 does NOT match...it was too dark, but it DID have the exact same rainbow "colored flecks" that matches the seats I have. So, I'm trying to figure out if my seats are from a '99 (IF the '99's had rainbow "colored flecks") or why my dark grey seats don't match the '02 ebony seats since dark grey wasn't supposed to be available in the '00-'02 models...

I think your right . The material I was thinking of was the ebony accent cloth interior in the 00-02 Camaros that I dont think anyone ordered ...it did for sure have multicolored ugliness going on .

I'm not sure it would show up in pictures unless it is an incredibly high, high quality camera...It's one of those color type things that really only shows up when you move the angles for the light to grab it.

I got my info from here:

http://www.lastofthebreed.com/Servic.../FbodyDiff.htm

It says starting in '00:
"Cloth interior cars got new rainbow colored cloth patterns"

Looking at in the sunlight it DOES have rainbow flecks in it. However, its very faint and not near as bad as the Camaro.

Thanks guys! I think I've got the mystery solved with your help, and the help of the Firebird parts manual.

After close examination, I found the date stamp on the bottom of the seats and they were made in 11/98, so they've got to be for a '99. Now that ya'll have confirmed that the '97-'99's also had colored threads in it, it seems the info I got when I purchased the seats wasn't accurate. I still like them and want to use them, but now that I know I'm looking for a '97-'99 seat to match, the search is on.
