Default Hurst shifter **** woes

So I just bought a short shifter(not hurst), and a hurst shifter ****. The **** is far too big for the threads on the shifter arm, and the adapters that came with the **** aren't threaded on the inside. Is there some way to couple these together?

Well the adapters that came with the **** will slide over the shifter and fit overly snug, but it's not threaded. I can get it on there but I was wondering if anybody has ideas so i would be able to get it back off in the event that I need to. (change transmission, etc...)
