Default Carpet install (don't have old carpet)

1.
I cut out my original carpet a few months ago in chunks (no torx bits for seatbelts) because gallons of liquids were soaked into the carpet for days, causing a really nasty smell to develop. Like an idiot, I just threw it away.

So I have my carpet from stockinteriors.com, and am worried it's going to be really hard to cut the carpet without the old one as a guide.

Am I screwed?

2.
Is heat shielding essential? I just ordered a couple 4x3 sheets the other day for the hot spots around the cats.

Thanks in advance! And I finally got a torx bit set.

i would say, lay it in your car with nothing on the floor board, take some chalk and mark the "soft" spots where you need to cut out for the holes, and such. just a thought?? i'm not sure exactly what you are gettin at but hope that helps

For bolt holes, you can screw in the bolts into the floorboard where they go, then lay the carpet down, then you can feel the bolts and cut an X on the carpet where you feel the heads of the bolts. I hope that makes sense haha.

That makes sense, chalk seems like a decent idea.

I'm talking about bolt holes, the console hole, and anything else.

What I'm really asking is WILL it be possible to do a good job without the original carpet if I spend as much time as is needed? I don't care if it takes 20 hours.

That's not bad. I'll keep that in mind.

If guess glue can be used if I cut an X too large?

This stuff works great if you cut in the wrong place or too large. http://www.amazon.com/00-07196-1-41-.../dp/B000BO4QZ0
