Default Making A Berger Panel

I finished my panel yesterday and I'm actually really surprised on how good it came it out. I painted it a semi gloss black and I was wondering for the people who have done that, did they spray a coat or two of clear coat over it? I'm not experienced on the body work and was also wondering if i could wet sand the the semi gloss after it has dried or spray another coat over it without messing it up.

deff you should hit it with clear or your probably going to be looking at a lot of fade and chipping.

i clear coat almost everything i paint on the car (dupli-color clear auto coat). better piece of mind. plenty of people dont, and say that it holds up pretty good. i did my brothers berger on his car awhile ago in satin black and it still looks as good a.s the day i did it

what kind of paint did you use? certain paints are better than others durability wise, and will hold up better to the elements, i use Krylon paints. if you used some cheapo paint i'd suggest a clear coat, but at the same time i wouldnt, becasue then it'd start to look glossy. so i'd say just leave it.

if your thinking about wet sanding it, to apply another coat of paint or a clear coat, that won't mess it up, just don't use a ridiculously high grit, and then respray it.

Yeah see I was worried if i put on clear coat it would make it look too glossy. I bought the rustoleum plastic primer and rustoleum all purpose semi gloss. I am not sure if those are the cheapo products.

I did mine satin, and I didn't want to put clear on it fearing it might come out shiny.

Mine holds up great, its my DD, sees rain/snow/ice and hand washing, looks just like day 1!

i have a 99 mystic teal, which is why at the beginning I was hesitant on making the berger panel but it came out real nice. I get many compliments from people who have seen my car before it was on there. I'll post a pic up when its stops raining here....its been raining constantly here.

Gloss w/clear. Matches the top of my car. Satin/Flat looks better on some cars, gloss looks good on the others lol

I sprayed a spare panel with primer and satin black paint, with a couple wetsanding sessions in between. No clear and it does just fine throughout daily driving. I just make sure to clean it up with some spray wax after a good wash.
