Default Polishing Engine Bay Pieces

what can be polished, without sanding paint off or anything crazy, under the hood. i know something need to be sanded down with 1000 or 1200 grit, and then gone over with a powerball. i was looking to do some small things to make the engine bay look better.

can the brake lines be polished? anything else

thanks

You can polish anything under your hood aluminum or stainless. If you're not sure, anything that a magnet wont stick to you can polish without having to worry about rust... Throttle body, MAF, stainless band clamps, AC dryer & lines, ABS block, LS1 valve covers, LT1 intake manifold, etc.

Here's a shot of my old Camaro with some polished stuff:

You can take Mother's Aluminum polish on a rag and go to town on all that stuff. No pre-sanding required...

Also the black will easily polish off the factory fuel rails the same way with a little elbow grease.

If you sand first it take about a quarter the time though. I always start with 800, then go 1000 then 1500 then 2000 then 2000 wet and then polish. The brake lines have a coating on them than needs to be sanded off and you will have to maintain them or they will rust.

you can always use a clear coat or fluid flam to prevent from having to maintain it!

I just polish it all the time! lol But you can clear them as stated above.

I have an extra alt bracket for a LT1 I am going to either have chromed or PCed white for Cecilia's car. I should be doing a lot to it soon and of course I will be posting pics.

you can do the fins on top of the intake manifold. you have to start at a very coarse grit though. i started with 180 on a DA sander and went to 2000. (yes it was time consuming) i also did the fuel rails as well. Ill go back and hit them with polish every so ofter to keep them up but its better if you clear coat everything.

Old thread but I'm getting ready to do this soon.

97ramsst how did you polish the ABS block? Did you remove it or polish it in place? How did you polish your pulleys?

A couple of you mentioned clear coating polished parts. What kind of clear coat would you recommend? How would this procedure work?

I polished the fins on the top of the LT1 intake. I started with 400 and worked until 2000 since it was pretty rough. Also did the fuel rails too. Dont pay attention to the rest of the engine bay though lol
