Default '03 Cobra shift ****

<img src="http://ebay2.ipixmedia.com/abc/M28/_EBAY_2044de84cb0237fea0af23c8b626497f/i-2.JPG" alt=" - " />

It would match my interior perfect. I read on ebay that it did not fit the guys trans am. Is the thread size larger or smaller? Anyone modify one to fit?

Thanks,
Justin

I guess a machine shop could re-thread the shifter stick?

Actually, , all you need to do is rebore it and tap it. Sears sells die tap kits that will fit.

Good thread. I was wondering about this also. Some other possible candidates I'm considering are:
1) 2000 Cobra R ****... leather w/ embossed pattern. I couldn't find any pics though on the net.
2) C5 Vette ****... a little bulky though.

Thanks guys..

I just bought one so I will be updating this thread soon with an installed picture. I like the Cobra R **** also, but I have brushed aluminum trim so the '03 **** fits my style better.

The stock Hurst (and my Ripper) both are a huge 5/8-18 thread size. There aren't many ***** that will fit.

you could get a mustang shift handle (aftermarket) and it should work.

I was going to do the same, stock shifter, pro 5.0 mustang handle, w/ the 03 cobra ****, BUT the pro 5.0 (mustang T5) handle has a different thread than the standard stang handles.

(I tried with just the mustang pro 5.0 handle and made a huge difference in the throw, much shorter, but it was a friends, so i had to give it back after i borrowed it)

The MAC handle (mustang) will not work because of the angle, (hits the back of the console hole, w/ stock shifter)

The Steeda handle may work, im not sure, ( i will be trying one a month or so)

I turned the Pro 5.0 stick the other way, cause if I had put it in the normal way I thought it would hit the back of the console.

Some new info:

The '03 Cobra PRO 5.0 shifter handle is the same thread as the stock '03 handle. It will accept the stock '03 ****. I am trying to find out if the stick is same design as the older ones or angled way back.

Used to have the hurst black shift **** on the b&m shifter. POS! I hated that **** it didn't thread on far enough and it was huge. I ended up replacing the **** with a black anodized Z28 etched one from http://www.mbaproducts.com/ . I got the smaller round one without the neck and it is awesome! It sits about 1/2" lower then the hurst on the same shifter and isn't cheap plastic with a threaded insert.

you can buy the normal pro 5.0 stick online for like $40 <img border="0" title="" alt="[Eek!]" src="gr_eek2.gif" />

Im sure you can with the pro 5.0 03 as well.

Question, if you dont have a pro 5.0 already, could i just order a 03 cobra one? get the stick and shifter in one purchase.????????????????

Ryan.
