Default Can I paint a powdercoated item?

I want to paint my Hotchkis STB to a color-matching Red. It is currently red powdercoated, is this possible? Someone I know thinks that is a bad idea.

Yep, I've done it.
When I bought my BMR strut tower brace, it was powdercoated red.
I sanded most of the powdercoat off, smoothed it down, primed and painted it.
18 months so far and still looks good.
Kinda small picture, but here's the results....
