Default Hand held Buffers.........Yah or nah?

Buffers make it sooo much easier, but I have also heard that apply/removing is better for the paint if done in a straight up/down fashion. Anybody notice buffers adding swirls? Comments, experiences, info, etc is appreciated <img border="0" title="" alt="[Wink]" src="gr_images/icons/wink.gif" />

Just be careful not to burn the paint. I hate seeing swirl marks in cars, I only let one guy detail my car and he has yet to leave a swirl mark...

Stick with hand waxing unless you think swirl marks will give your car character

Are you talking about high speed buffers or a orbital buffer. There is also a da (dual action) buffer. I would not use a high speed on a dark color but I would on white they leave swirl marks and burn paint real easy. The orbital like you can but for about 40$ at a store I would say yes they are ok. The da is normally a small buffer you can hold with one hand with a real soft pad its low speed so no swirls there either. I use the orbital on mine it works great.

Yeah I am talking about those little handheld buffers. I wouldn't attempt to mess with a high speed...

The swirl marks usually are created from heat. Most people spin the buffers two fast, I never use mine above 1,800 rpm. Burning the paintis alot harder than you think. I havt detailing cars for about 7 years and onlt burn paint once and it wasn't my fault.
