Default Cleaning Wheels (Clear Coat)??

Like the thread title implies, how can I get the wheels on my 2001 WS6 to shine again? The clear coat is really mucked up from salt during the winters.. to the point is may be pitted in some areas, but the biggest problem is there is just areas that are down right nasty looking and I've spent countless hours scrubbing with soap and water and polishes. Nothing seems to work. There are some parts where it looks like it's clouded, like it's been peeling or rubbed with steel wool.

I saw a thread on here many moons ago where the guy just stripped the clear coat off and they looked beautiful, but I can't find it despite searching, but wouldn't this be a nightmare to maintain?

At any rate, any advice would be most appreciated!

Thanks,

Adam

Stripping the clearcoat off is probably your best bet. You can polish them up, but up-keep is hard especially on a daily. I would have them re-coated. Then all you need is soap, water and some polish/wax.

This is what I'm afraid of. Do you have any idea how much it would cost to RE-coat?

Probably not much, Eastwood has a spray clear coat for aluminum wheels:
http://www.eastwood.com/ew-diamond-c...ero-11-oz.html

I have not used this product, but, I have a spare set of WS6 Rims that will be my next winter's project to strip them and reclear.

I've heard that if you do not reclear the rims after stripping them, you pretty much have to polish them every other week or so to keep the aluminum from getting water spots and etc.

I'm eventually going to put CCW's on her, but that's some serious coin and in about 2 weeks I'm dropping $3k to have the entire exhaust re-done and a tune so I just can't afford it right now

Just use some duplicolor wheel clear coat after you strip them. I think that should work for a while.
