Default removing drip rails?

I'm doing a paint job on a friends bird and after i took the drip rails off i noticed it would look alot better without them on the car at all. Has anyone ever removed these? i'm not sure if it would cause a problem with letting water come around the window seal or not.

FYI: its the small black lip that runs along the roof and down the windshield following the curvature of the door glass

Personally, I would leave them there as it helps to break up the roof line IMO. I had to replace one of mine a while back and noone on here seems to know much about these as I got very little response to questions on how to pull them off. Whatever you do it will look good, this is just my .02.
