Tint lt1 tails on silver camaro?
I've been contemplating tinting the tails/rear markers/3rd brake but i would like an opinion and some tips, since last time i tried VHT i think i did something wrong and it came out chaulky i guess you could say. Pic is attached.
I also like the style of the lt1 tails so i may tint lightly, or darker and leave the white backup light taped off, or just do it all darker. Any helpful insight?

I'm not sure about doing mine either, I don't think I want to tint the whole thing.
I was thinking either just doing the red or just the reverse light section, but haven't seen any on silver cars =(

I say go for it. Black on silver looks awesome. Although you might need to get more black accents like rims or stuff like that because the tinted tails might look out of place or something like that. I also ran into the dull appearance in mine im looking for a solution for that also. You can look at my thread for opinions that people are giving me if you want? Called "VHT tint or covers on my silverado...."

I followed this write up to do mine and they came out great. Just make sure you wetsand and polish after to really bring out the shine. If I were you I would tint them dark but tape off the reverse light, that's what I did and I love the look, a little more unique then totally blacked out.

Well i finished them up today with 4 coats of VHT and 3 of clear, but they still don't seem very dark, i may have done too light of coats, so i may do another coat. It got dark before i could snap pics so I'll post some tomorrow. And i did end up taping off the reverse lights so they're still visible, along with tinting the 3rd brake and rear bumper lights.

So you think another coat of VHT and 3 or 4 coats of clear? I polished those lights quite a bit and it didn't gloss much. Did you polish by hand or with buffer? And did you wet sand after, and if so with what? I was using 1000 for post-wet sand

LOL you don't wetsand after you polish. You level the clearcoat BY wetsanding, and then polish out the fine scratches. If you are just polishing the fresh cleacoat, you aren't gonna get much gloss, wetsand it first, get the orange peel out, and that will make the reflections more sharp when it's polished .

When you spray the coats of clear, spray it on thick but not thick enough that it runs. Do at least 3-4 coats, and I would recommend wetsanding with 1500 followed by 2000. Then polish the hell out of them. This method worked well on my old Grand Prix...

I dust on the clear, get it nice a tacky, and then spray a couple medium coats until the clear is deep and glossy. If it's dry to the touch, then it's good to sand. I sanded 1000, 1500, 2000. Followed by Meguiars 105 with a medium cut pad, and then Meguairs 205 with a fine polishing pad. This method worked great.
Before, right after clear was shot. Its orange peely and has no deep gloss or reflectiveness.
After wetsanding and polishing. The gloss is deep as the sea, and the reflection is crystal clear and sharp.

Alright thanks guys. I'll try to do another coat of clear then sand and buff em more and see how it turns out. I think with the clear i did it too light and not enough coats.
