Default grime cleaning - what have you used?

I've used simple green a lot and a brush to get all this crap off, but it takes forever sometimes. The one that bothers me is the power steering rack, they're all so grimey. I had some brake cleaner around and tried that and it works really well, i only tried it in a small area, but wondering what other options we have for some really grime ridden stuff?

Ive used WD40 to get the asphalt spots off. Also Ive used electrical cleaner (the one safe for plastics) with success. Its really tough on grime/grease and rapidly evaporates.

Try Zep Industrial Purple, available at Lowes/Home Depot. I think it was in the paint section.

if its on metal such as a the steering rack...use easyoff (the oven cleaner)...spray it on leave it on for a bit and then hose off.....It works wonders. Just dont use it on painted parts or any plastic and rubber.

Be careful with Simple Green, I've heard it's bad for aluminum or something like that...don't remember for sure but I'm sure you can google it and find out more.

Personally I'm a fan of Purple Power, used it with good results on cars in the past.

I've been using the GUNK Engine Brite for years, good stuff, cleans off motors, painted or unpainted without damage, transmissions, rear ends. The Gel kind clings very good.

For my wife's Grand Vitara, when you have to change the oil filter, the oil runs onto the front cross member, Gunk cleans up that mess with a little bit of agitation and water to rinse clean.

The purple stuff works well on some things. Simple green on others, and that Gunk Engine bright detailer with citrus is the bomb. I used that on entire undercarraige with brush on the rough stuff. Rinse and let dry, or blow dry with back pack blower. Perfect look. No water spots. Nice clean fresh look. Oh, and you're car will smell like citrus everytime you drive it.
