Default Center Console top , re-designed to be more modern . Lots of pics

I started this project ( 1 of many lol ) to refresh the inside of my Camaro . I love these cars and just have no interest in moving into a new Camaro, it is time for some modern updates and time to get rid of the tupperware quality interior . I dont have alot of time , so updates are gonna be painfully slow . But heres what I got so far .

The starting process . I basically cut all out . Total re-do , lol . Im NOT using bondo or fiberglass...its just the wrong thing to use for long term durabiltiy and its heavy as hell ....again not good for all weight sitting on top of plastic . Im using ABS plastic and heatforming , and specialized filler for finish work thats flexible and compatible with plastic .

Heres the 2 products I was talking bout . Dynatron for structural and 3m for finish work . You use the 3m like you would use a typical glaze for in bodywork , the dynatron would be like the bondo .

Starting to form the cup holder area

I use green tape to lay out the shapes I need to cut from plastic

Once you start lining everything up geometricly . You can really see how messed up this console is . The shifter opening is crooked as hell compared to the lines of the console top .

Time for a mock up

In light of messed up shap of the factory shifter opening , I changed the the shape to be more geometrically correct . Im gonna have design a custom boot ring and attachments , but that wont be a prob . Looks sooooooo much better now .

And heres where I'm at now . Lots of detail work left . Still need to build the cupholder base and do all the finish work . The side rails and console lid will be covered in leather , the console top plate will be piano black , boot and shifter , ebrake handle and boot will all be alcantara .

Heres a photoshop I did for the overall goal of the finished product .

Dude, you gave me a heart attack! I actually gasped and said to my wife "he's done!" confusing the hell out of her.

It is coming along nicely though. I have loved this project from the first time you showed it to me. Keep the pics rollin'!

That looks great! Wish there were more projects like this as our interiors leave a LOT to be desired.

Thanks alot guys My biggest enemy right now is timing , grrrrrr lol

Yes I am deepening it , well the pocket is deeper . For what I use it for the actual cup part(only part of the OEM holder Im using) is perfect . The intentions werent there , but it came out much like the 5th cup holder except with just 1 , not 2 .

lol hahaha , copy is the largest form of flattery

I might possibly make a couple more . I think now that I have all the details worked out , it would be a faster build second time around . The bad part is it wouldnt exactly be cheap .

Quick Reply: Center Console top , re-designed to be more modern . Lots of pics
