Default Folks with painted calipers...

I have noticed in the pics I have seen, and the instruction pages I have been to, that there are 3 distinct ways of doing this mod.

1)Paint the caliper.

2)Paint the caliper & bracket.

3)Paint the caliper primary color, paint the bracket black.

I am inclined to paint the caliper and bracket since once you get the wheels and all back together the caliper and bracket look like one part anyway.

Tell me what you did.

My car is a black 98 Z with silver SS ten spokes. The calipers are going to be painted red.

Thank you!
Dave

Feel free to post pics!

It looks best when the caliper is painted a color and the brackets are silver. Don't spray the back of the brake pads, take them off for painting. DON'T FORGET TO PUT THE CALIPER DECALS ON TOO.

I went with red calipers and black brackets.Do yourself 3 favors. 1. Make sure you get them clean. Don't leave any fluid, dirt, or grease on them or you'll have trouble with your paint. 2. I read where people hook up bag systems and just spray them on the car. Don't do that. Take them off and do them correctly. 3. Take a dremel or sand paper and polish them first. I've seen ones that people didn't polish a little first with the casting marks all over them. Mine are as smooth as a babies butt. Not polished to a mirror shine, just smooth. The paint looks soooooo much nicer on those than non-polished ones. You may know all that stuff but just in case. Have fun and you'll love the results.

I have bright red powder coated calipers. My abutment brackets and rotors are currently having a 70% gloss black heat dissapative coating applied to them. I should have them back in about a week.

Did you have a normal powder coat applied? Will it hold up to the heat? Just curious I have a friend who can powdercoat them but I'm not sure if I need special coating that will take the heat or if regular powdercoating will work.

Thanks Rob

Well, I actually know very little about the coating that is being applied to my abutment brackets and rotors. I has recently been developed and my coater (he does a lot of business with me at my work) has guaranteed I will like this coating or he will redo with a high temp powder coat. He said he will explain the process when he brings them to me, as it is different from pc. It has 70% gloss, where as high temp powder coats are generally 20-30%, from what I understand.
I don't believe that regular powder coating will stand the heat very well. But I'm not sure. The high temp pc is more expensive that regular pc: about 3 times more. Here is a link from one of our sponsors.
