On mine I sanded it inside the letters and key hole best I could, then drilled a few small holes in each letter for the fiberglass to have more to bite to, next from the back side I layed down a couple layers of fiberglass, after that dried I flipped it to the top side and filled with fiberglass resin without any matting, sanded as smooth as possible than a thin layer of evercoat (bondo).

I'm still working on shaving mine. I filled the letters and the key hole as well as those little ripples on either side of the center section that are covered by the hatch. No finished pics on the car as of yet, I'm swapping in some LT1 lights at the same time. When its done it'll be black. I used some fiberglass on the back to cover the key hole and then put a round piece of plastic in the hole. The front side I sanded down then I drilled a few holes in the CAMARO letters. I filled them and the key hole with some stuff I had called duraglas, its like bondo with fiberglas strands already in it.
Still need to sand it again and then I'm gonna start hitting it with some black paint instead of the etching primer, its a really easy project if you have done body work before or have some patience
Forgot to mention I live in Oregon, and it rains! I was in the middle of painting it and it started to drizzle, so its got a bunch of dots now. Luckily I had to do some more sanding so it wasn't a big deal.
The sun came out so I hit it with some black primer :-D
