the clear plastic cover, should be glued to the black plastic
so I dont know if ya wanna take a chance with that
the clear plastic is too brittle, IMO to mess with it

They used a Dremel with a wheel for plastic to cut a fine line where the plastic meets the molding. You will then have to glue it back on with small amounts of epoxy.

This is alot tougher to do than one would think. I tried it twice (yes I screwed the first one up and bought another one which turned out terrible). Like mentioned above, you will need to cut it off. The trick is to not get out of the groove and scratch the surface. The impossible part to get through is around the bottom (or the part above the steering column). I had the great idea of inlaying a chrome bezel over the existing. Great idea, sloppy execution. I'm sure there is someone out there good with cutting plastic that could do it but I could not. Good luck!

Do you have a picture of what you're referring to? The only clear plastic cover I know of is just secured with some pressure clips to the black plastic that makes up the rest of the gauge cluster.

What I am talking about and understand the question to be is how to remove the clear lens that the bezel is attached to. The clips you are referring to attach the lens/bezel unit to the gauge cluster. The only way to remove the lens from the bezel is to cut it. The only problem is when you get to the bottom part it's no longer that simple with all the bends and corners plus they surface area that is glued is a lot more than being just around the edges. Hope this helps.
