Default Painted my bay today

It's nothing that hasn't been done a thousand times before, but I'm happy with it so figured I'd show some pics. It took about four days, but I painted my engine bay this week. I didn't do a professional job, just rattle canned over the factory coat in my garage. Though I did sand some problem areas down. It doesn't look as noticable in photos as it does in person because the camera flash made the factory coat look glossy, which as we all know, it isn't.

Before:

Had some bubbling and surface rust in places:

Stripped down:

After a coat or two:

Finished project:

Man, this really makes me want to clean up my engine bay and do all the wire hiding. Your bay looks so nice.

Very nice! Did mine last winter and it is probably one of the most rewarding jobs I have done on the car. Especially when I pop the hood and folks are so surprised how clean it is.

Thanks guys. i started hiding all the wires last summer. It helps clean it up a lot. I'm probably going to go to Home Depot some day and get some little plugs for the holes and paint them to match.

I did the wire mod and traction control relocation. Then I wanted to paint that piece near the washer fluid tank. So I ended up just removing the tank. It actually helps out a lot. And seems like it gets more air now. Maybe its just me though. Your bay looks so clean. Like there wasn't any wires there to begin with.

Yeah figured I'd wait and plug them later. I'm not going to bondo or weld or anything.

I was on the fence on doing this to my T/A. Not anymore. I have the heads off and no exhaust left in the bay. That ought to let me get pretty good coverage. Then YoFab came in and I want a bling engine bay. Nothing else in the car is bling, but what is it that Chip Foose says, "It is like a jewelry box. You open the hood and there is the diamond." Something like that. Thanks for the nudge. I'll follow suit. And I'll give YoFab a call in a month or two. Your car looks damned good now!

Looks a lot better. I need to do mine but working 12 hour days doesn't allow for much, lol. I get around to it one day. If you don't mind my asking, what brand/kind of paint was used?

I used Dupli-Color Perfect Match paint. O'Reillys and Auto Zone both have it. Look up your paint code and they have a guide so you get stuff that matches perfectly. A bit pricey though. $6 for 8 ounces.

Looks good! I did the same thing to mine when I swapped engines in my TA, although my bay looked MUCH worse than yours before I painted it.
