Default Painted Aluminum Block?

Hey guys, I am at the point in my project of getting ready to drop in a 6.0 liter aluminum block into my 2000 T/A and was wondering about painting the block only which I realize is totally sacreligious.

I know, I know, you ask why does this fool want to paint a perfect looking aluminum block? Well, I was thinking about going "old school looking" with this conversion and paint the block the old Pontiac metallic blue that the factory used to paint the engines in GTO's and such back in the 60's early 70's. With this theme I have other ideas.

Has anyone painted their aluminum block and what prep was used? I was going to use a zinc or epoxy based primer then the final paint. The last thing I want is for the paint to peel.

Thanks

dont know if the aluminum will effect it any or what have u, but we painted a buddys 5.0 block by just cleaning it really good and then sprayed it with "ford" blue, we used the cheap engine paint u can get at advanced and he has put bout 5,000 miles on it and its still looks like the day we put it in...

Same here on my 69' 327 block, VHT engine enamel primer/paint and clear. Held up for 5 years looking great before I pulled it.

I can't see aluminum being any different to paint.

Brent, personally seeing your build, you know a lot about "style."

I debated quite awhile about painting a fresh aluminum block and decided to go for it and do something different.

Dupli-Color 500 degree. Minimal prep.

I wanted to paint my 402 Pontiac blue, but I decided against it at the time. You don't see much of the block in these cars.

Does anyone have a pic of a painted block in in a 4th gen f body?

paint will flake easier on aluminum, but even then, it should be okay
