Default vht nightshade removal

Is there anyway to get vht tint off my tail lights? What do i need to use and whats the best method for removal? Ive heard lacquer thinner and brake cleaner but want to be sure that its safe before i do so. maybe nail polish remover or acetone?? Anyone else had to do this?

i would try paint thinner or rubbing alchol, but i would be afraid that acetone or brake clean may damage the plastic, weaken it really,

your best bet would be to take a high grit sandpaper (600-1000) and sand it off then polish it , using such a high grit sand paper will take some time, but will be less likely to damage the honeycomb design of the trans am tailights

The honeycomb is inside the lens. I would start with 800 and not lower just so you don't scratch the lens bad. Treat em like clear coat. After you get the tint off with 800, follow up with 1000 and then 1500. Then polish with a swirl remover followed by a fine cut. I'd also avoid any solvent like thinner, alcohol, acetone etc since most will damage plastic and you'll find yourself sanding anyway. You get a ticket or just tired of the tint?

Sounds labor intensive and risky...I'd save up and purchase another set of OEM tail lights. Keep both pair and have the best of both worlds or turn around and sell the VHT lights and try to make back your money. Might find a nice used pair on the boards/salvage yard/ebay?

no ticket. Its been on my car for almost a year now and its faded a bit. Im kind of tired of it too and wanna try a new look for the back. I might just buy another set of oem lights. Seems easier since i have to take them off anyways. Plus, i dont wanna mess them up on my first attempt at sanding something.

If its faded a bit hit it with some polish. To remove it wetsand with 800 grit, working up to 2000 grit, then buff.

I had it on my tails and ended up with a $155 ticket so I wet sanded mine off and floored up with Meguire's Plasti-X and they look fine to me. To me they look better than they did before I put the VHT on.

I know plenty of people who have used paint thinner on theirs and the **** just falls right off. None of them have ever had a problem with with it either.

Took mine off with a combination of gas and sanding. Took off the sidemarkers and 3rd brakelight with gas. It took alot of rubbing with gas, but works. I ended up with 800, 1000, 1500 grit on the taillights and probably should hit them again.

I wouldn't recommend starting sanding with 800 grit on lenses it's too rough. Better off using something not as coarse like wet sanding with 1500 grit then move up to 2000 then high polish. Or chemically remove it.

the only thing that will do it is acetone (what is found in nail polish remover). i found that is slightly marred the finish of the lights after i used it. it is very strong stuff. you can buy a bottle at wal-mart near the paint section for $6 bucks or so.

I used enamel reducer and it worked flawlessly...no plastic damage or anything.
