Default Hood Spring too strong

I just replaced my stock hood with an aftermarket fiberglass hood and now I need to apply tooooooo much pressure on the hood to get it to close. Has anyone tried replacing the spring in the hood latch, and if so what did you use?

No I mean the spring that pops the hood open. It Is too hard to close and when you open the hood it wants to pop up to the moon.

Cut a few coils or buy a high mileage spring

I have been meaning to take mine apart and replace or modify it. I was thinking of stretching the current spring first.

I got it. I removed the latch and opened the 4 prongs that hold the spring in place just enough so I could unscrew the spring 3 coils and then bent the Tabs back, installed the latch and everything is good now with the lock. ..... Now all I need to do is remove the hood hinge and slot the holes so i can lower the hood a little on the driver side. Can't get the hood to lay flat.

Oh yes I did not cut the spring just in case I need to put the steel hood back on, I could just screw the spring back in.
