Default 02 Camaro Morimoto Mini H1 Projectors

Thought I share this with everyone, I just finished with the installation. The light pattern is even without the dangerous glare to the oncoming traffic. Worth every penny.

Awesome! I'm going to retro those here soon. What shrouds are those? And have you thought about painting anything around them black?

They are the mini gatling gun, I like the OEM look so I didn't paint it black.

What exactly did you have to do to install, focus/aim them properly after you took the headlight housing apart?
Any type of fabrication was required?
can we get more pics like the first one but on the road?

The bulbs are 4300K. Installation was relatively easy; the hardest part was leveling the projector on the housing. I had to mount the headlight assembly back on the car to adjust the level and perform alignment before gluing the lens cover back. Here is a link to the procedure I used for alignment.

I will take some pictures on the road in the next few days.

Did you have to trim/cut anything in the headlight housing and How does the projector actually securely sit in place?

Do you have hi & low beam in the same projector now since they are "bi-xeon"?
How well does the solenoid work to switch from high to lo beam?

Thanks for all the cool info!

Also if you want the projectors to stay on when the high beam is activated, some additional modifications are needed. Here is the wiring diagram from the Retrofit Source. A diode needs to be wired between the positive connection of the high beam to the positive connection of the low beam projector relay.

Yes, the projector secured in place with no additional cutting, but I added some epoxy to the backside for good measure. The bi-Xeon works well. I tested the solenoid before installation by connecting it to the battery. So far so good, the solenoids are still working.

Per your request, here are some on the road pictures. The first and the third are low beam, and the second and fourth are high beam.

Those look like a quality product with the added benefit of keeping a relatively stock look. Will any HID bulb fit into these, or are they only compatible with the bulbs sold by the same company?

For reference, they do also offer a morimoto kit using oem D2S bulbs as well.

Clean install and looks awesome. A gagillion times better than any possible aftermarket headlight in both form and function.

Nice!
I'm adding this to the Lighting FAQ.

Unfortunately, the D2S version of this projector is an older design and the output is not as good. Which is a shame because D2S is a real OEM HID bulb (both versions of this projector are aftermarket however). The H1 version of the projector was designed with a H1 HID kit in mind. This H1 version is actually real HID projector and not a Halogen projector.

There are actually multiple versions of both the H1 & D2S version of this projector, but it seems that the current H1 version (4.1) still has better output than the current D2S version (2.0).

If you want to stick with an OEM HID D2S projector there are plenty of options but they all take a bit more work to install. A good option is the FX (and the FX-R replica). The RX330 and TL are also some popular options, but are a bit larger.

The output of the Morimoto Mini-H1 is actually close to the FX-R.

Thanks for this. I've been wanting to do a retrofit for years now, but have been shying away from doing it myself and can't seem to get the funds to have them done for me. I might just suck it up and make this a winter project. I'll likely be pegging you with questions!

Edit: Cyber Monday deals led me to order projectors (finally). Looks like this is happening!

Me too lol. I spent so much money I didn't "need" to spend this week. Well I could say I needed projectors. Stock TA lights suck ***.
