Default Arrggg! Paint help!

What the hell is this?

It almost looks like some oil seeped out of the filler neck and got on top of the base coat. What can I do to fix this without repainting both valve covers?

That black marble swirl stuff? If it's dried with the paint you need to strip it. Try a polish, if it's old dried oil ontop of the paint you may be able to remove it but it doesn't look too good.

Sonofabitch! Would I need to strip the whole thing or could I just sand a bit around the neck?

I used brake cleaner and alcohol. Why would I do that on the inside?

Yeah that is from oils on the surface... sucks.. you can try to sand it, then spray on a very dry coat.. add one or two more layers then put it on wetter. good luck

When painting 90% of the job is in the prep work before the paint is applied.

I would soak them in some paint thinner to strip off the existing paint then sand with 600, 1200 then prime and paint, just do multiple light coats.

Good luck.

I wouldn't wetsand with 600. Start with 1000 and see if that does the trick than you'll have to use a heavy cut polishing compound followed by a medium than fine. But it might not require the medium/fine. Maybe just medium. If you were to repaint i would strip it than use lower than 1000 grit but for wet sanding typically 1000/1500/2000
