Default AVS blackout tail light covers...

I have a 2000 T/A, decided to buy these from summit, they came fast, I put them on, and now just a few days later I've noticed they have taken quite a few chips of paint out of where the trunk meets them, the little clips that stick out have just eaten away at the edge of the trunk lip.

So my questions are, how can I prevent this from getting worse while still keeping these on? And how do I correct the paint issues now?

You might want to take them off for good unless you really like the style(in that case I would just use VHT on them)

If you don't mind warping your tail lights though, nevermind.

The heat trapped with blackout covers starts baking the housings. I've seen them bubble up, and get indentations. 3 of the camaros I've had, previous owners had covers on them at some point. Sticks out like a sore thumb.

To stop them from chipping, just get some velcro and stick it on to make it so you can adjust them easier, it'll also push them out a bit which might help at least a little bit with the heat issue.

I would love to do the nightshade, but I don't want it to be permanent, if I get a ticket I don't want to have to buy new lights.

That is a known reported Camaro problem.
Never seen it reported on a Firebird tho.

Can you 'trim' the areas on the covers that are in the vicinity of the decklid, so they have more 'clearance'?

I've seen it on all 3 firebird/lt1/ls1 taillights as well as both the camaro versions.

I took VHT off in 5 minutes by using Goof Off, just so you know it's not permanent.

OP can you take some pics of your covers? How much light do they let through? I am thinking of buying the same covers from summit because they are local to me. My tailights are shot so Im thinking of buying covers instead of converting to LS1 lights.

I bought my AVS covers for about $65.00 online when doing my rebuild. the shading isnt too dark and they keep their shine. If you are wanting to go with the blackouts I would go with AVS :
