Default Painted My Coils

... Great little mod! While I was in there, I also replaced the hardware with stainless, no more cut hands while changing spark plugs! Well, less blood anyway, LOL

Before:

After:

Now I just have to fill all the engine bay holes and repaint the shock towers, and I think I'll be happy.

Man, why didn't I do all this with the engine out...

Thanks for the comments, guys I really wish I had done this earlier, because it seriously makes a difference trying to get to the rear spark plug and wires. All of those bolts with points and tips and those plastic clips for the harnesses used to rip up my arms pretty badly.

... Aaaand of course it gave me the opportunity to tie in the intake a bit more

The coils were just cleaned up with Purple Power, washed, then rattle canned with sandable primer, white gloss and an enamel clear gloss. I probably used $20 in supplies with the cleaner, tape and paints. The hardware was probably another $15-$20.

I'm loving this too.. curious what bolts you used and paint also.. I know the fusion paint would stick good but can't imagine it holding up to engine bay temps..

The bolts were M6x1.0 20 stainless bolts from Lowes. They sold them in 5 packs, I needed 16 for the coils and 10 for the brackets. So I have some spares, lol... the paint I used was Rustoleum "automotive formulation" from Lowes, whatever that means. I don't believe it's formulated for high temp applications, but the FAST is done in the same paint and has held up fine so far. I guess I could repaint them if I saw that temperature was an issue, but it made it through a heat cycle yesterday without any indication of issues... time will tell?

Lol, yeah, I thought of that as I was doing this. I briefly thought of painting the brackets white and the coils blue, but that would have been IMPOSSIBLE to clean!

Actually, getting rid of all the bolts with tall heads and spikes as well as getting rid of the plastic clips has really improved the accessibility of the area. I think wiping them down will be easier than before, but yeah... I was asking for trouble painting them white

I always wanted to get white rims but the cleaning part looks like it would be a pain. If you stay on top of it I don't think its so bad.

Very nice looking mod right here. Really makes the engine bay look so clean. I need to get around to doing something to my engine bay.
