Default How many of you guys have your old antenna?

The antenna on these cars are archaic, the long tall hanger type of wire that bends and sways in the wind, that looks unnatural with the rest of the car, the one that reminds you this is an old car. how many of you guys still use it?

Is there an alternative? Can you buy an aftermarket shorter antenna? I decided to take it off for a few weeks, I actually think the car looks clearner without it, looks better.

What do you guys do?

I have my old one. Not modified. It doesn't go up and down on its own.

I don't think any Camaro antennas ever went up and down. Maybe if you bought an aftermarket one?

I cut mine, then twisted the ball off top. Filed down the end so the ball would fit over and glued it on, Its been over a year now and its all good.

My old Z28. If I remember correctly, I measured the entire length and divided it exactly by 1/3 or 1/2.. not sure. Used a grinding wheel to point the tip of the antenna.

Also, Firebird antenna's go up and down, Camaro's are stationary wind poles! ...every TA I had I disabled the antenna.

Do a search for the Bitviper antenna. Looks better than stock IMO, well priced, and I haven't noticed any difference in reception.

The firebird antenna's went up and down? For what years?

I bet that was a real pain in the *** if it got stuck in the down position, just like the firebird lights get stuck in the up position.

I still have the ugly stock one just cause I haven't gotten around to doing anything about it. But I'd say either pull a retractable one off a T/A, or buy one of bitviper's shorty rubber ones.

98-02.. I'm not sure about LT1's. I've had a few 98-99 Trans Am's and they're all power antennas, pretty sure that goes for all firebird's. I disabled mine so they wouldn't go UP anymore, they stayed down. Still got reception, but I always used my iPod anyways.

Forgot to mention, if you trim your Z28 one, you need to knock off the ball on top. I put my antenna in a vice, put a pair of pliers behind the ball, and tapped the pliers with a hammer. Just have to watch for where the ball goes. I think I lost mine which is why I pointed the tip LOL.

I cut my stock antenna down to about 8 inches tall. Stock I believe is around 28 inches. I still get great reception...pioneer cd player shows signal strength and I don't lose signal till the same spot I lost it with the stock height antenna.
