Default Black 95 Z, full correction, dail up don't bother(finished pics page 2)

I wanted to share a car I am doing paint correction on. It's my best friends 95' Z28. We had talked about repainting it but I suggested doing paint correction on it before we get that extreme. I knew the car was in bad shape but didn't realize how bad till I washed it and put it under the halogen light. The car has been subjected to years of neglect and improper washing techniques. The car isn't finished yet but it will be done by the end of the week.

Car was washed w/ Dawn, then clayed.

I am using Meguairs Microfiber pads, Lake Country orange, white and black pads. Compounds are Meguairs 300, M105, M205 and Menz 85RD.

Every panel on the car has been repainted except the drivers fender, passenger side quarter and the SS wing. This made things a little more difficult because each panel needed a different pad/compound combo. The three panels that were still factory were extremely hard and needed the MF pads. The rest of the panels I started out with orange pad. There were a few panels I had to use the MF pads anyway because the damage was so bad. If I had to guess I would say its a 85-90% correction. The scratches that are left are deep and can only be fixed by repainting.

Just because I feel a before/after is justified for how bad the wing was. Some jackass wrote "Wash Me" on the wing.

After MF pad/M105

After; MF pad/M105, then white/M205

As the car sits now white/M205 as far as I've gotten on it. I'm going to hit it w/ the black pad and Menz 85RD next then Opti Coat it.

Thanks for looking.

M105 can dust up on you but there are many factors that contribute to that. I love 105/205, its a work horse in my stable. On the Rotary if it dust up I will buzz the dry spots then wipe.

Just on things like a D/A, cleaning he pad on-the-fly is very important and working in smaller spaces. For which most cars are fine, when you get open spots of real estate like trucks it takes a while and is tedious but worth it when your done.

Meg's also sells a M80/M83 combo which is made for single stage paint, or paint that is older and "Dried out" you can work it longer and gives similar results to 105/205

Nice work. Thanks for posting the 50/50 pictures. It's hard to explain what can be done and how long it takes to correct something like that. I have had people look at me funny when I tell them it will take days not hours to "fix" that.

A Rotary will "fix" that. Not hard to use. Been using that combo on really bad cars/trucks and does cut work time a great deal.

Nothing to be afraid of.

I agree. Just talking about the average car owner that thinks a coat of wax will remove the swirls. I have a few cars that I take care of. One just picked up a 535 that was a loaner. He got a good deal but the paint shows the daily machine wash at the dealership. He told me the other day: They said they put a coat of wax on it before I picked it up. It's smooth and beads like crazy but looks like the pictures posted above.

Thanks for the kind words from everyone. Using the MF pads and M105 proved to be a defect killer. One thing I did notice that the M105 had a lot longer working time on the MF pad compared to the foam. Why I don't know.

Prob the type of material. Having larger pores and firmness helps cutting where as its a microfiber material that has in essence "little fingers"

That's kind of what I was thinking. The MF pad seemed to hold the M105 inside the pad more preventing it from drying out so fast and dusting.

Nice job man. These 4th gen f-cars really correct out well unless the clear is damaged. The clear is quite hard and you gotta really work for it, Ive done quite few and they come out so good.

Looking forward to the finished results. So did the friend know this was possible or is he pretty much shitting his pants ?
