Default paint correction for the newb!!

Ok so I've decided to tackle my ta's paint job. It's black and the previous owner did not take care of it,has swirl marks pretty bad and does not have much shine. I would like to do the full paint correction process, never done it but am confident if I take it slow and have the correct products I can get it done over a few weekends. So could some pro's tell me what I need, pads, compounds, what pads to use with what,etc....would like to get through local parts store if possible, thanks.

I hear that wetsanding with 2000 grit sandpaper then finishing with meguiars ultimate compound and a good wax works well.

You will need a dual action polisher like a porter cable or griots. I would recommend Megs 105 with a LC orange pad for compounding, 205 with a LC white pad for polishing, then finish with a good wax or paint sealer.

Griots DA with a 5" backing plate and the 5.5" LC CCS pads is my choice. Its the strongest polisher and the cheapest. I've used all 3(PC xp/ Meg's G110v2,Griots) It comes with a 6" backing plate. You'll need to buy a DA 5" BP separately.

No. Please don't give advice on something you obviously know nothing about. That's a good way to screw up a persons car. OP check out the 'ask a professional detailer' thread. There is a ton of info there. It will take a while to learn what works and what doesn't. Also check out my thread on doing paint correction on a black Camaro.
