LT1 Hood Firehawk or WS6? Pick which one I should get.
Just bought a 96' Trans Am and I'm looking to put a little bit of money into, can't stand that stock hood. So which should I go with. (hopefully this works)
The WS6 hood
Or the Firehawk hood
Thanks for your time, and leave your opinion too on which one you like better. I can take all the criticism. I happen to like the Firehawk just a tad bit better since its not seen as much but I've seen others strongly dislike it because they say it doesn't flow well with the body.

I was hunting for an oem ws6 hood for my car, but any time they came up used, they were usually around $900-1200. New SLP ones can pretty much only be had by Year One and they're around $900 before shipping and of course unpainted AND THEN you've got to find an airbox, pretty much $300 for a worn out one with the screen cut off, up to $500 for decent condition ones.
Finally, I found a high quality aftermarket one with a good paintjob (already black) that's incrediably close to a factory WS6 hood. It's got the "fingers" around the ram air ports, it's got the functional passage way underneath for an airbox, but a bit "smoother" (kind of like the firehawk hood) on the sides of the cowl. Picked it up for $315.
What I'm getting at: don't rule out aftermarket hoods completely, but make sure you can see them in person and make sure they are good quality-there is a lot of garbage out there.

I prefer the WS6, but like both. I just got a 95 Formula and have been looking for a ram air hood for it. I've missed some good ones....most noteably someone on Craigslist sold the hood, hatch/spoiler, and taillights for $320 total just hours after listing his partout. He was literally there with the buyer taking the parts off the car while I was off the phone. He passed along an offer from me to the buyer, but the guy refused. I could hear him in the background say "naw it's going on my car." Also missed 2 different aftermarket ones that were a couple hours away. The only thing I've found so far are two of the 4" aftermarket hoods: A 4" pin-on VFN for $200 and a 4" bolt-on Glasstek for $300. They look awesome, but I don't have enough HP to back up a scoop like that. lol

I like the Firehawk hood on a formula and WS6 hood on the TA.
Remember- the early Firehawk hoods were prone to cracking around the scoops where as the WS6 hood was not. I have one if each and if it is not an original hawk I would definitely go with the WS6 just from a quality standpoint

I looked everywhere, for a replacement firehawk hood, when my firehawk took a hit while parked at my friends house. I eventually settled, several months later, on an oem ws6 hood that was bought as a replacement hood for a car that was being fixed at a dealership. Paid about $800 or so after shipping. I love it and think it does look better than the firehawk version I had, but it's not as unique as my original. I would trade it in a second for a real firehawk hood. Real ws6 hoods can bring so big money and can be very hard to find (so can LT1 Trans Am front bumpers). But firehawk hoods almost never show up for sale. That being said, there is one on eBay for $1050 o.b.o.
