Relocating HVAC controls to glove box
I have seen pictures of a few HVAC controls relocations to the glove box, which supposedly is an extension-less move (ie. no wire clipping). I attempted the move by pulling out the panels, unbolting and unclipping and unhooking the control panel, but I ran into two problems:
1. Large connector won't clear a narrow path around the radio. Could be unbolted and slid through.
2. Left-most control wiring harness comes from a harness toward the driver's side, which would definitely NOT stretch to reach the glove box. I guess I could cut open the loom and pull out the specific wires, but I wasn't expecting that.
I'd like to do this ... :
Anyone else done the move?
Thanks,
-Rob

that's fine as long as you have a passenger with you!
Not a flame, but can anyone explain to me why you need a TV for the driver, (watch the road) or in any small car?

I don't ubderstand why anyone would want a TV in a sports car. Maybe in the back of a minivan to keep the rug rats quiet but that's about it. This bling bling technology craze is gettin' wacky yo!

It is a nice install though I have to say, although it must suck to have to reach in your glove box to change the A/C...

Anway, the mod is not so bad (although putting the controls where they are hard to get to seems dumb), it's just the whole TV thing in a car, especially a sports car. One TV in the back of the minivan sure.

guess all these race cars drivers here don't need any distractions.
my stereo is all bone stock for what its worth, can't really hear it anyway in my car. i just think that's a cool custom idea.

Man this thread had a lot of replies ... but just talking about the DVD screen. I could care less about that -- I would like to keep my stock CD player, but am curious about relocating the controls. And maybe slapping some gauges and switches where the controls are now, cuz we knowz dey is tyte!
Riiight. I'm gauged out right now, but I'm still curious how some guys did the reloc w/o cutting wires.

That happens to be my car. I attepted this project just to prove to my self I could do it. I had never seen it done before and i wanted to try something that I hadn't seen yet. I relocated the a/c controls to the glove box cause I have never once used them the entire 4 years of owning the car. I will be taking the a/c out completely before to long anyways, so i wasn't to concerned about it.

Aha, he speaks. Glad to see you in the thread ... so you straight up lengthened all of the wires, the vacuum line included? And built a little box for the panel and screwed that to the glove box? Hmm projects projects ... I wonder if all of those switches could be replaced with something small ...

This is something I was thinking about doing on a project car down the road a little. Move the HVAC controls to the center console, and you could fit three 2-1/16" gauges on a custom board where the HVAC used to be. Sure, you would have to lengthen wires and tubes for the HVAC controls, but thats no big deal.
