Default FX-R Retrofit

I was talking with a local member from here and his experience and knowledge solidified my confidence in trying a retrofit. I purchased the TFS FX-R Stage III kit with the Morimoto 3Five ballasts and Morimoto 5000k D2S bulbs.

We're still working on the install but we finally mocked up the kit and they are phenomenal! The cut-off is razor sharp and the intensity is, . . intense!

Here's some pictures of the mounting frame:

You are messing up the bulb depth. Your focus is going to be wayyyy off

It looks to me that the entire projector is mounted to the front of that bracket and poking through the back. If so, then the mounting depth is not affected at all. Otherwise you would be right.

Is that the 3.0 version? That front half looks different than the other FX & FX-R projectors I've seen.

I've added this thread to the Lighting FAQ:

BTW, what year is this for? I want to make sure I put it in the right section. The height of that bracket makes me think 1993-1997 Firebird, but I could be wrong.

That is correct. The housing has not been modified, extended or anything and it is mounted on the front 3rd piece.

Yes they are the TRS FX-R 3.0 projectors:

It is for my 2002. There is some trimming involved.

We can take some pictures of it being assembled so there is no question about how it's mounted.
VIP my RX and his FX write ups will be up within 2 weeks.

Unfortunately no. I had them mocked up and working but my buddy couldn't properly form a cover for them. I'm not sure what to do with them. Thinking about just running them as they are and exposing them to the elements. If the lens gets nicked, I'll just purchase new lenses.

The lens being exposed isn't the only issue. Water and dirt can get inside and ruin the projector.

You can make your own vacuform setup (there are threads on here and HID Planet) or you can try buying covers from BLS. Make sure to cover the rear as well. Try to make it weather-tight.

Thanks VIP1. I already talked with BLS and their covers wouldn't fit these projectors - it would have to be custom. I saw those vacuum-forming threads you mentioned before but it seems too much for me to get into now. Do you have any experience with lens forming? I could send you the projectors, pay for the materials and pay you for your time if you are interested.

Unfortunately, I don't have any hands-on experience with lens forming but it is something that I am interested in for my own car.
