Default Floppy ash tray lid :(

So I just bought a brand new center console for my 6speed swap, and it came with everything

But any time I start to break, shift, or anything that changes the momentum. The lid flies open I took the little aluminum plate off and wrapped some washers in electrical tape and stuck them.in the top in hopes to weigh it down, didn't work.

WHats a fix for this?

I had one that broke the hinge on one side and the spring was always a pain. So I drilled where the hinge pin had been and threaded a small SS bolt in on that side. Now I can adjust the friction on it.

I will try to remember to post a picture later of it, as it is out of the car in my office right now.

Check ur lid to see if the side hinges are still intact. if they are then u missing the spring. I had the same problem with my ashtray lid, but i was missing the hinge spring. i put one on and i have not problems with it. dealers are asking 35 bucks for those. i have an extra one i can sell to u 10 bucks shipped

Here are a couple pics of what I did, and one to show off Emblem Pros switch plate.

Hope that helps you.

The whole console was brand new? Even the base?

I used 2 very small magnets like the kind you find with magnetic earrings. I super glued one to the console base and one to the ash tray lid. Works perfectly and never opens on its own.

I like the magnet idea, I needed to fix the hinge, but might add those too.

My fire jacket cuff always grabbed the lid on the 2-3 shift with the short MGW shifter.
