Default Mercedes SLS AMG Black Series correction and CQuartz Finest + photoshoot

A very good client of mine recently took delivery of this brand new Mercedes SLS AMG Black Series and brought me out to correct it and coat it with CQuartz Finest. I've enjoyed working on a couple of his C63 AMG Black Series, but I was very excited to work on his SLS AMG Black Series. It was fortunate enough to escape a dealer wash, but there were still issues from the factory to be sorted out. A solid 3 days went into this beauty at the beautiful facility of Club Auto Sport in San Jose, CA. After it was completed, I had my friend James Larieau come out and shoot some nice photos of this very special car. Onto the pics......

As I arrived at Club Auto Sport, the SLS Black had all its shipping wrapping and padding still in place. I love getting cars this "factory fresh"

Very cool emergency trunk release button flashing green....just in case you get locked in the trunk.

Even though no dealer washed the car, it was far from defect-free. It had its fair share of light marring, swirls, hard water spot etching, and extensive DA sanding marks.

Compounding residue, thank you factory...

Removing the protection on the carbon fiber interior pieces

Holograms, buffer trails, and the heavy DA sanding marks.

Taking readings on the carbon fiber hood

50/50 shot on the hood

At this point I brought Ryan out to help me get the final compounding and polishing done. The hood required 16hrs by itself to correct the extremely heavy DA sanding marks

Eye of the tiger look....

Taking readings on the CF wing and correcting it

Engine bay was pretty rough. RIDS, hard water etching, and swirls

Looking better after correction and coating

Final polishing all done

That is truely stunning Jeff. What a nice portfolio addition that is. It really blows my mind how bad some of these cars arrive brand new.

That car was so worth the tedious work on some of the parts. James took some damn good pics but that's not surprising.

That looks fantastic! I would be so upset if I spent that much money on a car and the paint was in that shape.

Always enjoy seeing both the cars you post & the improvements you make.

Just goes to show that a true craftsman can still make an improvement on most anything, even brand new. My wife's car she got new 12 1/2 years ago is shinier now than off the lot, but at least it wasn't a 100k plus car that needed that much attention.

It's insane how bad cars can be from the factory.

On a side note, I have been in a few of these cars and at 6'5" it's incredibly challenging to even get in the damn things with those damn dors How is it for an averaged sized person?

That looks amazing. Your photography is top notch, I know how hard it is to capture defects in white paint, and you did it very well.
Considering there was sanding done, I still see a fair amount of orange peel.

Great detailing, it's just a shame you had to spend so much time on such an ugly car...
