Do you have any swirls and scratches? If so, you should take care of those first with an abrasive.
For the protection process you should wash, clay, wash, apply wax or sealant.
I recommend using top to bottom and front to back motions when washing, drying, and waxing.
I also recommend quality towels and mitts. I use Napa Snow White wash mitts and Pak Shak microfiber towels www.pakshak.com

Claybar first to get the clearcoat cleaned up....... then if you have swirls, go after them, if not just apply wax......it all depends on how much the paint was neglected in the past
