Dash Pad Cover - Opinions Wanted
Hey Guys,
I am looking to buy one of the molded dash pad covers for my 97 Z and just wanted to get some feedback from others that may have bought some. (i really dont want to wrap mine) I know you can buy them on ebay and some other sites relatively cheap, and you can also get them from 6LE, but my question is which one to go with. The 6LE with shipping is almost $90 more than other sites so I was wondering if there is a noticeable difference in appearance/quality with theirs?

Afaik, the one on 6LE and the cheap ones on ebay are coverlay. I looked in to these a while back but the pad on my Z is so busted up that one this style would never work. Mine looks like a jigsaw puzzle with pieces missing.
FYI, There is a company in south Florida that has a repop of the original that they sell on ebay. They are close to $300. There are a couple of threads in this section discussing them.

I'm happy with my dash cap, turned out well just make sure when you glue it down your get it nice and even and weight down with something for 24hrs. I went with an EBAY seller.

I heard the ones from South Florida were hit or miss. But for the price.....I`m thinking about getting one. Plus finding a decent stock one is hard to find, let alone finding someone that has one thats for sale.

I purchased the overlay, and I ended up removing it and purchasing a new OEM dash pad. My dash was really cracked bad. I had the overlay installed for about four months when the pad started creeping up due to the dash cracking more. I ended up removing the whole thing and I bet that there was a 100 individual pieces from my original dash stuck to the overlay. Now, if your dash only has slight cracking and it is not so brittle that it will keep cracking, then an overlay may work for you. But it may only be a temp fix. Even though the price for a new OEM cover may be a couple hundred more, you may save some money in the long run just going the OEM route. I decided to go the OEM route partly since I am covering the entire interior in Redline leather, and a new OEM cover will end up looking the best.

I have a brand new oem ebony dash pad but I haven't installed it.
I bought an upper dash cover from a vendor on here and never looked back. It basically removes all glare and still looks factory. I think it was $35 shipped and he does also monogram them

My pad was so bad its falling apart. It was perfect and then I started using a sunshade. After the car sat for about a month outside I came back got in and there were cracks everywhere. Sigh. But this cover is great, most of the time I forget it's even there and no one even notices

The company from south Florida has the replacement cover on eBay...less than $300 shipped. I'm thinking I'll do the carpet for now, though. Nice couple from the Florida panhandle actually makes them. I met them a few years back at a local cruise in. Eventually I want a set of their seat covers too.

I own one, see MY post#14 in this thread, they fit, they work, as good as original, NO. YMMV https://ls1tech.com/forums/appearanc...lled-pics.html
For now, I think I'm still going to get the carpet first and pull the trigger on the actual cover later. I can't justify the cost of buying a used cover that is as old, or older than mine(and WILL shatter at some point in the not too distant future, imho) nor can I justify the exorbitant cost of buying a new GM cover(that will end up identical to what I have now in a few years). My car has spent it's entire life sitting outside in the AL coastal sun and will most likely finish its' days in the same locale. Nothing I personally do will be a long term answer hence the carpet cover makes more sense to me in the short term. That and the fact that I'm broke from the current engine swap...

So sorry to bring up an old thread. However, when you guys install this dash pad, did you remove the old cracked one? Mine is not very flat due to the cracks. I thought taking it out would let the pad lay flat and a smidge lower. Thoughts?
I got the carpet upper dash pad from lethalinteriors.com

I got the custom pad from lethalinteriors.com. I was wondering if anyone that had that pad removed the stock one before install? It should be here this week...i hope..
Try the dashskin one, there's also a thread about it here, it's less than 90 bucks now.
