My stock WS6 wheels look like crap---HELP!
Alright guys, I have an 02 WS6 with 9500 miles on it. Anyhow, the rims (stock 17") that are on the car are by far the worst set of rims I've ever had on an f-body. They get dirty easy and are extremely hard to clean. From what I understand they're "polished magnesium" wheels? If thats the case, how do I clean these so they look good and they shine really nice? I've had no luck, and I figured I shouldn't use any of my other wheel cleaners because I was told they're clearcoated from the factory. They just look super-dull and I'm not impressed with them at all. Any tips, products, or suggestions would be much appreciated. TIA.

Will that work being that the wheels are magnesium-based? And are those products safe on the factory clearcoat?

Could be wrong, but I don't think GM makes magnesium factory wheels. Anyways, if they are clearcoated, they could be washed off easily with some pep-boys grade wheel cleaner and a little scrubber. I have the factory polished/CC wheels, and they stay reasonably clean, easy to wash with McGuires Hot Wheel cleaner and a brush.
If they are painted or CC then you don't want to use a heavy polisher compound on it. Some of those are made for bare metal polishing, not good for paint.

Any of those aluminum polishes are meant for bare aluminum, not clearcoated polished aluminum like WS6 wheels. I wonder if the clearcoat has become "hazed" and if a polish intended for paint haze would help? Theoroetically, the problem lies in the clear, not the aluminum, right?

Try a paint polish. DO NOT use metal polish on clear coat.
You could try something like Meguiar's ScratchX locally or order some nice products online. www.autogeek.net

u could always do wut i did and remove that clear coat and get more shine outa the wheel, but be prepared to polish every so often.. it does sound like the clear coat is foggy do as PFDarkside and ZaneO said.. try a paint polish or similiar.. NOT aluminum polish.. if that don't work then i'd say the only way to get shine back is to stripe the paint.. i agree these wheels are the worst!! my AR rebels are on order
